Decatur Crime Update: Recent Arrests

On 08/25/13 between 12:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m., there was a burglary in the 100 block of Superior Avenue. Entry was made by breaking a Plexiglass pane in the front door and utilizing a key left in the lock. A laptop, iPod, cell phone, purses, backpacks, jewelry boxes/chest and cash were stolen. Some of the items were recovered near the intersection of Scott Boulevard and Superior Avenue. A witness reported hearing a noise in the intersection around 2 p.m. and seeing a jewelry chest had fallen from an unknown vehicle. In addition to this burglary, there was a report of damage to the front door knob/latch of a neighboring house that occurred during the same time frame.  No entrance was gained into that residence.

Update:
On 10-21-13, an arrest was made in the Aug. 25 burglary of a residence in the 100 block of Superior Avenue. The suspect is a 15-year-old male from DeKalb County.

Decatur police have been investigating several burglary and theft reports from late August and early September where bicycles were stolen from garages and porches in the Great Lakes neighborhood.  Three bicycles have been recovered and returned to their owners.  On 10/22/13, Brandon Brown of Decatur, 19, was arrested and charged with three counts of theft by receiving. Brown was subsequently charged with two counts of burglary related to the theft and attempted theft of bicycles.
