William L. "Bill" Clarke was born and grew up in Dayton, Ohio. He received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Dayton and M.B.A in Management from Xavier University in Cincinnati. He spent the bulk of his career as a management consulting partner in the Big 4 consulting arena. He focused on strategy development, systems, logistics, marketing, and operations improvement. He is a retail industry expert, frequent industry critic, and speaker with a filing cabinet full of white papers, articles and speeches.

After over 30 years of consulting, he retired early only to find he preferred to work so he went back to consulting with entrepreneurial and troubled companies, including turnaround projects with a children’s book publishing company where he got his first taste of the publishing business. In addition, he has served as an Adjunct Professor of Management and Marketing for several universities in Ohio and Georgia. Bill and his wife, Patty, a retired nurse have been residents of DeKalb County for 30 years.

Although Bill enjoyed writing as a hobby, he never thought seriously about writing a book until he experienced some unexpected psychological issues in his first retirement attempt. He researched the available literature on retirement planning and learned that most books on the subject focused almost exclusively on financial planning. He felt there was a need for guidance on all the other whole life aspects of retirement. It was then that the decided to write Retirement Renaissance, a book that explores the new world of retirement planning. The book reveals how the new generation of retirees, the early Baby Boomers and the Generation Xer’s and Yer’s, are changing the way people think and plan for retirement.

Since publishing the book, Bill has worked with groups and individuals to help them develop plans for their future lives, including the decision of whether to retire, or what to do in the latter quarters of a person’s life that will bring about a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment.

Bill is an avid reader, writer, walker (a daily runner for 25 years until the hips gave out), aspiring chef, and oenophile with a semi-serious assortment of wine and a very dedicated and competitive golfer.
