Decatur School Board OKs Later Start Time for Decatur High Next Year

Renfroe, five minutes earlier. The 4/5 Academy will start one hour earlier, at 7:45 a.m.

The Decatur School Board voted Tuesday night to change the start times for the high school, the middle school, the 4/5 Academy and two elementary schools. Some parents complained these earlier hours made it difficult for students to concentrate in class. Parents gave the school system research papers showing adolescents' biological systems are different from adults and children and that their academic performance improves with later start times The school system surveyed parents, students and …

I agree...its to big of a difference between the High School and Middle School. 8am is fine for high schoolers as this gives them a chance to work after school for a few hours but for the middle school, they need to start earlier (8:15 would be fine) so they aren't getting out of school so late   more ›
