Second Life Celebrates 2nd Anniversary

Two years after opening during a sluggish economy Second Life Upscale Resale has drawn bargain hunters and donated $42,500 to local animal rescues.

Second Life Upscale Resale in Avondale Estates is almost 14-years old, but that's in dog years. In human time the popular resale shop is about to turn two. Several years ago, Tanya Mahous Tobias, who had spent a decade working in the airline industry, decided she needed a change in outlook and employment. Opportunities were scarce in the down economy but the thought that she and her husband Toby should be doing something for animals was foremost in her mind. They were inspired by their beloved dalmatian Lucky, a formerly homeless dog deemed "unadoptable" who lived happily with the Decatur couple. The inspiration they came away with from having Lucky in their life eventually translated into the following: take a risk, nothing is impossible …

Dog Travels 6,800 Miles Hoping For New Home

Abandoned in Egypt, Gordy is now up for adoption in Atlanta, thanks to resale shop owner in Avondale Estates.

The ancient Egyptians worshipped cats and sometimes would mummify deceased pet dogs, burying them with their owners, or on occasion giving them their own individual coffins. Modern Egypt isn't quite so attentive to man's best friend. In a country of around 80 million there are only a handful of animal rescue organizations and the government is pro-poisoning of street dogs as a means of controlling the population. Gordy is a 4-year old Egyptian street dog who has, happily, escaped that fate. He was abandoned in Cairo this fall and spent five days patiently waiting in the same spot downtown where he was dumped. Every day he carefully watched everyone who came by, looking for his former family to come back and get him.  Fed on occasion by …

Gordy is still looking for his forever home! He is a sweet teddy bear who would do great in a home with another dog and a family wanting to spoil him. He doesn't require a lot of exercise but LOVES the car and walks.   more ›
