The Oakhurst Community Garden Project has been renamed the Wylde Center, after founder Sally Wylde. Stephanie Van Parys, executive director of the Wylde Center, said the change was needed because the organization is now a multi-dimensional nonprofit that outgrew its original brand. It's now much more than a community garden. The organization's headquarters will remain at the Oakhurst Garden at South McDonough Street and Oakview Road. The official name of that site will become Wylde Center at Oakhurst Garden. How big is the Wylde Center? It's now running these programs: Oakhurst Garden, the Sugar Creek Garden, Decatur Farm to School, environmental and education-based youth outreach programs, garden coaching, community-wide education and …

Garden beekeeper Cassandra Lawson leads the class and starts by saying that beekeeping used to be a fringe activity. "When I started beekeeping a while back it wasn't a very popular thing to do," she says. "Quite honestly, it was a little eccentric." But the students don't think so. They tell why they were motivated to take the class. The Inter Press Service story has the headlne "Urban Chicken-Keeping Movement Spreads Its Wings" and uses the garden's Chicks in the City symposium as an …
