Peanut's Road To Recovery

Peanut is four months old, weighs almost 2 pounds and was abandoned with two severely broken legs.

Atlanta can be a huge and scary place when you're all alone and only weigh 2 pounds. A chihuahua/miniature pinscher puppy was found this month, alone and in obvious pain, outside of an auto parts store. His owners could not be located and there were no "Lost Dog" notices online or in the paper matching his description. It was as if the tiny, terrified dog appeared out of nowhere. It soon became obvious he had nowhere to go and, with two broken legs, he wasn't going very far anyway. Enter LifeLine Animal Project. The Avondale Estates rescue and animal welfare organization took in the tiny two-pound pup (now named "Peanut" by rescuers because of his small size) and promptly set about finding a way to get him back on all four feet. They took …

Tomcat Tenderness

The life of an un-neutered tomcat is a carefree love 'em and leave 'em lifestyle, right? Not always. This cat dad stuck around to care for his kittens.

Zen is one cool cat. He's also very unusual in that he's a paws-on dad to his three young cat children. Animal rescuers are accustomed to coming across stray mother cats with kittens. Female cats that are not spayed and un-neutered male cats can create multiple litters in a year, every year, starting at a young age. It's an ongoing population explosion that animal advocates work to stem because there simply aren't enough homes for all the cats born annually. It usually goes like this: un-fixed cats mate, female cat gets pregnant, male cat goes his merry way. Only sometimes it doesn't go like that. LifeLine Animal Project recently rescued an abandoned cat with three kittens and upon inspection found they had an anomaly: a "Mr. Mom" male cat…

I have been feeding a very ancient un-neutered Feral Tom for years. Have tried many times to trap him, but experience has made him crafty. He turned up several months ago with a young pregnant female, he would always let her eat first while he sat and watched. I did manage to trap her, and with reluctance, had her spayed. Whilst she recovered from the surgery he visited constantly and made little…   more ›

Cuddly Cassie and Adventuresome DeSoto

If awards were given for "cats who give the best performance acting like puppies," Cassie and DeSoto would win, paws down.

They're both a little clumsy, especially for cats. They both come running when they see you and one or the other might hurl themselves into your arms. They are friendly, they are cuddly and they never seem to meet a stranger. Cassie and DeSoto, sibling cats who reside in LifeLine Animal Project's no-kill Kitty Motel, almost seem to be two puppies living in the bodies of two sibling cats. They are waiting for adoption. They approach every person who visits them as a potential pet parent, running to meet visitors and, given a chance, climbing on their shoulder and riding around. The friendly twosome came to LifeLine as kittens when they were picked up by DeKalb County Animal Control. They were about 6 weeks old, sick and living on the …

Nubby The Cat Needs Help

Nubby came to LifeLine Animal Project with turned-in eyelids and a mangled tail. To get better he just needs a little help and some new friends.

Sometimes bad things happen to good cats. Take Nubby, for example. When this big orange stray was saved by LifeLine Animal Project, it was immediately obvious upon his arrival at the rescue that he had a host of physical problems. He had entropian, a painful and problematic inward rolling of his lower eyelids, a condition more common in dogs than cats. His tail was horribly mangled, half it already gone and the rest infected, consistant with a run-in with a coyote or stray or off-leash dog. He was also diagnosed FIV-positive but was showed no obvious symptoms. Another thing that was immediately apparent: How sweet natured he was. Incredibly, although he was in obvious and terrible pain, he never tried to bite or scratch the hands that …

Rescue Group Offers 'Pets For Vets'

LifeLine Animal Project wants to pair homeless pets with war vets in November by waiving dog and cat adoption fees for former and active duty military.

Nov. 11 is Veterans Day and LifeLine Animal Project in Avondale Estates decided to do more than simply wave the American flag. The non-profit wants to be a friend by offering a friend to the men and women of the armed services. A furry friend, to be exact, from their Dog House or Kitty Motel, where they rescue and rehabilitate homeless pets. Figuring that the loyalty of a pet and the loyalty of America's military deserved to come together in some way, LifeLine is dubbing November as "Pets For Vets Month" at their no-kill shelter and will waive all adoption fees for military personnel, past and present. “We are all deeply grateful for the brave men and women who put themselves in harm’s way for our sake,” said Blythe Randolph, board chair …
