Eddie's Attic to Host Texaco Country Showdown Talent Competition

The early June competition will attract local talent to compete for the state, regional and top national prize.

Eddie’s Attic will host the Texaco Country Showdown local talent competition with 101.5 KICKS-FM in early June. The competition, famous for opening doors for Tim McGraw and Miley Cyrus, is dubbed America’s longest-running and largest talent search. Eddie's Attic has launched careers for Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland, Shawn Mullins and others. The competition’s three rounds will be held on June 2, 9 and 16, at 8 p.m. Interested participants can find more details on the radio station’s website (www.kicks1015.com). Eddie’s Attic will also open its doors to supporters for a small cover charge. The competition at Eddie’s Attic will be one of 500 live, family-friendly shows across the nation. Proceeds from Jennifer Nettles Concert Bolster Museum School Music Program

Attic Community Playground donated more than $6,000 to the charter school's music program.

How much music education can $6,000 provide? Enough to leave 140 children wild with enthusiasm, according to the Museum School of Avondale Estates. Patch has just learned that Attic Community Playground, an Avondale Estates nonprofit that supports music arts and education, has donated $6,186 for the Museum School's music program.  The money was generated by a solo, acoustic benefit concert by Jennifer Nettles in Texas in January. A Georgia native and former Decatur resident, Nettles is an Attic Community Playground board member and half of the grammy-winning country music duo Sugarland. Jennifer Nettles Among Those Headlining the Agnes Scott Writer's Festival

Agnes Scott Writer's Festival is celebrating 40 years

Grammy-winning singer/songwriter and Agnes Scott graduate Jennifer Nettles is among those headlining the 40th annual Writer's Festival at Agnes Scott College. Nettles will give a reading and performance on March 31, at 8 p.m. in Presser Hall. Tickets are free and can be picked up in the box office starting at 6:30 p.m.  Nettles will be joined by Danzy Senna, author of "Caucasia," and Arda Collins, an accomplished poet during the festival, which runs from March 31 to April 1. Past visiting writers to the festival include authors Eudora Welty, Julia Alvarez, John Updike, Junot Diaz, Margaret Atwood, and others. Agnes Scott has hosted the festival since 1972. Whiz Kid: Meet Sydney Rhame

This 12-year-old singer, songwriter is close to cutting a deal with a music label

Name: Sydney Rhame, 12 School: Renfroe Middle School Accomplishments: This 12-year-old singer songwriter from Decatur has been writing music and lyrics since she was 6. In addition, she is an accomplished guitarist and has been performing for audiences for the past five years, including at local events and festivals, according to her mom, Julie Rhame, a City Schools of Decatur board member. She even played at Decatur's own Eddie's Attic, long known as a launch point for many careers, including Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush of Sugarland, John Mayer and Shawn Mullins. Most recently, Sydney played her guitar and sang at the fundraiser for the Decatur Education Foundation, held on March 17 at Steinbeck's in Oakhurst.
