He gives tips on how to reduce the chance of your car being stolen.
Decatur Police Chief Mike Booker asked Decatur Patch to run this response to a story that ran today with the headline "Decatur Police Report 7 Car Thefts Over 10 Days." In looking over the reports in reference to stolen cars I was wanting to give a brief statement and pass along a few safety tips/reminders in regards to stolen vehicles. It does appear as though we have had seven incidents occur during a time period from July 10th-20th. They appear to be at various locations throughout the city but it was noted that several cars (4) were taken from either apartment or condo parking lots. Police issued an advisory Wednesday warning residents that car thieves are targeting Hondas and Toyotas.
This information comes from Decatur Police Department reports. Decatur police are investigating four vehicle thefts that occurred since June 19-23. Two of the thefts involved a Honda and a Toyota. This information is from Decatur and Avondale Estates police reports. Three Decatur Heights burglaries There have been three separate burglaries in the Decatur Heights area, Decatur police said. All three incidents happened between 8 a.m. and 11:50 a.m. and each one showed signs of forced entry. The most recent burglary happened on June 11 in a house where someone was home at the time. The resident was confronted by a suspect and told not to look at him before he fled the scene, so she could not provide a detailed description. Decatur police plan to increase their patrols of the area with uniformed and plainclothes officers and residents may call 404-373-6551 if they have more information. A house on Springdale Street was burglarized.
This information comes from Decatur police reports. Decatur police are investigating a rash of motor vehicle thefts, including three cars and one motorcycle reported stolen on the same date. These vehicles were taken: Two computers were stolen when a residence in the 400 block of Springdale Streeet was broken into the morning of March 26. Police responded to an alarm about 10 a.m. and found the back door ajar and an adjacent window shattered. The resident told police she locked up about 8:30 a.m. and left the house. Listed as stolen were a blue Dell laptop and a silver Mac Book Pro laptop. Police want to file charges against a man who drove off with a car that Dixie Auto Sales was trying to repossess.
