Decatur Fire Dept. Offers Free Smoke, Carbon Monoxide Detectors

The city government received a $83,505 grant for the project.

Carbon monoxide is a silent danger, as proven last month when a leak at an Atlanta public school sent 42 students and five teachers to the hospital. The Decatur Fire Department has started a campaign to offer free carbon monoxide and smoke detectors to city residents, thanks to $83,505 from the Fire Prevention and Safety Assistance to Firefighters Grants. The city government webpage says, Decatur firefighters will install new detectors, test existing detectors and replace inoperable ones in an effort to ensure homes are safe. In addition, upon request firefighters will provide a free home fire-safety check during the smoke detector installation.
