This is the third year for Small Business Saturday, and Decatur is celebrating the day in a big way. The Decatur Business Association says shoppers can: According to the Small Business Saturday website, American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get more exposure during one of the biggest shopping weekends of the year. Fittingly, the day falls between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Downtown Decatur merchants are starting the holiday shopping season today with Terrific Thursdays. To further entice you downtown, the city says there will be "a major announcement" at 6 p.m. at the community bandstand on the court square that will help kick off Terrific Thursdays. Stores and shops that are part of Terrific Thursdays will stay open late and offer snacks and discounts to customers. Go to the Visit Decatur website to see a full list of participating stores. Terrific Thursdays will be held Nov. 8, 15 and 29 and Dec. 6, 13 and 20.
