Obit: William Mann of Avondale Estates

William "Bill" Thomas Mann, 83, founder of Mann Mechanical Co. in Avondale Estates, died May 13.

The City of Avondale Estates provided this information in an email. William "Bill" Thomas Mann died on May 13, 2013 in Highlands, NC. He was the son of Cannie and William Henry Mann, born May 11, 1930 in Augusta, Georgia. Mr. Mann is survived by his wife, Sara Stringer Mann, married for 60 years.  He is survived by his sister Lucille Mann Byars, of Atlanta, and was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Jack Mann.  Surviving children include one son, Marty Mann (wife Julie) of Atlanta, and two daughters, Marsha Mann Perkins (husband Mike) of London, UK, and Julie Mann Riggs (husband Clarence) of Winter Park, Florida, and four grandchildren, Katie Mann Penland (husband Seth), Tyler Mann, Ryan Perkins and Sean Perkins.  Mr. Mann founded Mann …

Former Decatur Mayor Jack Hamilton Dies

Mr. Hamilton, 93, was mayor during the construction of the current Decatur High School.

Jack Hamilton Jr., mayor of Decatur during the 1960s, died Feb. 3. He was 93. The family obit on Legacy.com says, Hamilton was elected to the City Council of Decatur, Ga in 1961.During his 10 years on the City Council he served as Mayor of Decatur championing an Urban renewal program and the construction of the current Decatur High School. Hamilton also served as President of the Georgia Municipal Association, the highest office a City Official can hold in Georgia. Chris Billingsley sent a photo of a 1965 dedication plaque at Decatur High that lists Mr. Hamilton as mayor and Roy A. Blount as chairman of the city school board. Decatur Restaurant Owner Teri Rogers Dies

Ms. Rogers owned Feast restaurant but closed it last February to concentrate on battling breast cancer. Another Decatur business owner, Corinne Herbst of the Alexia Gallery, died last week of complications from breast cancer.

Teri Rogers, former owner of Feast restaurant in Decatur, died Saturday at her sister's home in Marietta. Ms. Rogers had been battling breast cancer and closed Feast, located across from the old Decatur train depot, last February to concentrate on her health. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Joiner Anderson Funeral Home at 502 Miller Street Extension in Statesboro. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to the American Cancer Society at 515 Denmark St., Suite 500, Statesboro, GA 30458. Attention: Kay Nay. The funeral for Lillian Lewis, the wife of U.S. Rep. John Lewis, will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta.

The funeral for Lillian Lewis, the wife of U.S. Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at Ebenezer Baptist Church at 407 Auburn Ave., Atlanta. Mrs. Lewis, 73, died Monday at Emory University Hospital. She and Rep. Lewis, whose 5th District includes Decatur and most of the city of Atlanta, had been married 44 years. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution said, Flowers may be sent to Willie A. Watkins Funeral Home, 1003 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd. SW, Atlanta, until Sunday. Lillian Lewis, Wife of U.S. Rep. John Lewis, Dies Monday

Lillian and John Lewis had been married since 1968.

The office of U.S. Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) has confirmed that his wife, Lillian, died Monday morning in Atlanta. She was 73. Details on her death were not available late Monday. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Lillian Lewis grew up in Los Angeles and developed a lifelong interest in Africa. She taught in Nigeria in 1960 in a student program and later returned to Africa in the Peace Corps. The newspaper said, It was after taking a job as a librarian at Atlanta University (the predecessor, with Clark College, of today’s Clark Atlanta University) that she met her husband at a 1967 New Year’s Eve party at the home of television personality and civil rights activist Xernona Clayton. New York Times Runs Obit on Larry Morris, Grid Star From Decatur

Morris led the Chicago Bears team that defeated the New York Giants in the 1963 NFL Championship game.

The New York Times has posted an obituary about  Larry Morris, a Decatur native who starred as a high school, college and professional football player. Morris, 79, died Dec. 19. He starred for the Chicago Bears team that defeated the New York Giants in the 1963 NFL Championship Game, before the Super Bowl even existed. The times obit said, His signature moments came on Dec. 29, 1963, when the Bears played the Giants for the league championship. The temperature was about 10 degrees at kickoff, but nearly 46,000 fans jammed Wrigley Field. The Bears had allowed a little more than 10 points a game in the regular season, but [quarterback Y.A.] Tittle had thrown a league-leading 36 touchdown passes. Funeral For Renfroe Teacher on Saturday

The funeral for Stacey Daniel, 34, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Fairburn.

The funeral for Renfroe Middle School teacher Stacey Daniel will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at St. Mark United Methodist Church at 85 Bay St. in Fairburn. A funeral notice placed by the family said her remains will lie in state from 11 a.m. until the service. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
