Carter USA's project to include 240 high-end apartments.
Atlanta-based real estate developer Carter USA is planning to construct a $40 million, mixed-use complex at 315 West Ponce de Leon Ave. in downtown Decatur, the Atlanta Business Chronicle reported. The company, which has the 2.5-acre site under contract, is slated to make a presentation to adjoining property owners on March 13 at 7 p.m. at Decatur City Hall, 509 North McDonough St. Carter's project calls for the construction of 240 high-end apartments and 10,000 squre feet of retail. The plans, including sketches of what the buildings will look like are on the city of Decatur website. Copies also are available at Decatur City Hall. A big mixed-use development in downtown Decatur that was tabled years ago because of the economic downtown has come back to life. Apartments, shops and a parking deck would be built in the parking lot that spreads out behind the tall office/bank building at 315 W. Ponce de Leon Ave. A five-story building with shops on the ground floor would be built in front of the office building, facing West Ponce. The City of Decatur will hold a public meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, for people who own adjoining property. Will, I agree. There are so many modern glass buildings lining a few square blocks on Peachtree street - and while I like them - they give that area of Midtown a very urban and busy (hustle bustle) feel. Decatur has always been a different kind of place, a sort of urban oasis in the city, with a more relaxed tone.
