Your 4th Of July Guide to Fun In and Around Atlanta

Fireworks, festivals, fireworks, parades, fireworks, celebrations ... Oh, did we mention fireworks?

There's a lot more to Atlanta on the 4th of July than the Peachtree Road Race. The metro area is home to many great Independence Day celebrations and events. So, for your 4th of July activity guide, here's a list of what's happening on our signature national holiday: Avondale Estates: Lineup for Avondale Estates' city parade starts at 9:15 a.m. at Avondale High. The parade steps off at 10 a.m. Fireworks will be set off over Avondale Lake at dark, and the Bluenotes will perform at the lake. Buckhead: Lenox Square is home to the largest fireworks display in the southeast. The show begins at 6 pm with local bands providing live musical entertainment. Safety on the 4th of July

How to safely use fireworks, where to go to celebrate and how to get home safely this Fourth of July.

As the Fourth of July approaches, it's a good time to review some tips about safely using fireworks--that is, if you want to use them yourself. The National Council on Fireworks Safety offers these tips for fireworks and sparklers: If you'd rather let someone else set off the fireworks, head over to Keswick Park for an all-day celebration including carnival games, watermelon seed spitting contests, cornhole competitions, a bike parade, clowns, live music and food before the big show gets underway at about 9:30 p.m. (weather permitting). Make sure to show us your pictures and videos! Since it's been so hot lately, make sure to keep cool: drink lots of water, get in the shade or into an air conditioned space if needed and keep an eye on one …
