Avondale Estates Author to Speak at Book Festival

Mary Kay Andrews and six other writers will have a drink with you -- if you're the top bidder.

Mary Kay Andrews is on the New York Times best-seller list, and you can spend an hour with her at a local pub, for a price. Andrews, a part-time resident of a 1926 Craftsman bungalow in Avondale Estates, is one of seven authors who have agreed to spend an hour with the highest bidder to raise money for youth literacy programs in Decatur. The Decatur Education Foundation will auction off an hour at the Brick Store Pub with Andrews and Joshilyn Jackson, Susan Rebecca White, Clyde Edgerton, Lauren Myracle, Andisheh Nouraee and Hal Needham, a former Hollywood stuntman and director of "Smokey and the Bandit." All of the authors will be appearing at the AJC Decatur Book Festival Presented by DeKalb Medical on Labor Day weekend. Andrews' books …

Best-Selling Authors Headline Decatur Book Festival

Best-selling authors from a range of genres will be wandering around Decatur over labor day as part of the sixth annual Decatur Book Festival.

A rock singer and his artist wife, two parades, opera singers, theatrical performances, a treasure hunt, a literary duel and more than than 300 authors will be featured at the sixth annual AJC Decatur Book Festival presented by DeKalb Medical on Labor Day weekend. And this year, you'll be able to bid on having a beer with some of the authors at the Sept. 2 to 4 festival that is expected to attract thousands of book lovers to the historic Decatur Square and surrounding venues.
