Legislators to Host Town Hall Meeting in Decatur

State Reps. Mary Margaret Oliver, Howard Mosby and Rahn Mayo and state Sen. Jason CarterDecatur will talk about legislative issues Feb. 13.

  State Reps. Mary Margaret Oliver (D-Decatur), Howard Mosby (D-Atlanta) and Rahn Mayo (D-Decatur), as well as state Sen. Jason Carter (D-Decatur), will host a town hall meeting Feb. 13 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Decatur City Hall. The legislators will discuss issues likely to come before the General Assembly in the 2013 legislative session and hear comments and concerns from their constituents as they prepare for the upcoming legislative session. Jason Carter Discusses Egyptian Election on CNN

The Georgia state senator traveled to Egypt with his grandfather, former President Jimmy Carter.

State Sen. Jason Carter (D-42nd District) is getting involved with politics outside Georgia. He traveled to Egypt recently with his grandfather, former President Jimmy Carter, to observe the presidential election. He talked about what happened with CNN. Jimmy Carter also called the last 30 years the most gratifying of his life.

Decatur AARP Members Lobby Legislators At The State Capitol

They spoke in support of senior services, against bills targeting the needy and unemployed.

Thirty-four AARP members from Decatur, Lithonia and Stone Mountain traveled by bus to the state capitol Wednesday to talk to legislators. According to the state AARP communications office, AARP members spoke out against a reduction in unemployment benefits and urged lawmakers to maintain funding in the state budget for "respite services" for caregivers helping Alzheimer’s patients and other seniors needing long-term care. According to Kevin Doyle of the state AARP communications office, AARP members urged legislators to: The trip by members of the two DeKalb AARP chapters was part of Three Weeks at the Capitol, an annual event hosted and organized by the AARP Georgia State Office during the Georgia Assembly’s legislative session.

State Sen. Jason Carter Holding Town Hall Meeting Feb. 28

State Sen. Jason Carter will hold a town hall meeting at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 28 at Knollwood Elementary at 3039 Santa Monica Drive, Decatur 30032. Carter represents District 42, which includes the city of Decatur. He inviting anyone to come and share their concerns, including questions about the future of the HOPE scholarship.

Decatur Legislators Will Hold Town Hall Meeting Thursday Night

The public is invited to the 6:30 p.m. meeting at city hall.

If you have a question for your local legislators, Thursday night would be a good time to ask it. State Reps. Mary Margaret Oliver (D-Decatur) and Stephanie Stuckey Benfield (D-Atlanta) and state Sen. Jason Carter (D-Decatur) are holding a town hall meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Decatur City Hall. All DeKalb residents are invited. One probable topic: Hope Scholarships. Carter has been especially vocal on this subject, leading Democrats trying to reform the state agency that administers Hope. As the Atlanta Journal-Constitution recently reported, Sen. Jason Carter, D-Decatur, and other Democrats have begun a push to undo many of last year's Republican-led changes. Carter said last year's reforms are a failure because they did not force HOPE …

This e-mail came in today from the Georgia House of Representatives: State Representative Mary Margaret Oliver (D-Decatur) and State Representative Stephanie Stuckey Benfield (D-Atlanta) will hold a town hall meeting with State Senator Jason Carter (D-Decatur) on Thursday, January 26, at 6:30 PM at the Decatur City Commission Chamber.  All DeKalb County residents are strongly encouraged to attend.  All the legislators are Democrats and represent Decatur.
