At the Wednesday market, Doggy Dogg will be bringing back their tasty, locally sourced hotdogs, along with vegetarian options." During a weekend forum for the Decatur City Commission candidates, Greg Coleson said the city needs a green building ordinance and Scott Drake emphasized balancing development with neighborhood needs.
Greg Coleson and Scott Drake talked about their backgrounds and priorities Saturday at a forum for Decatur City Commission candidates. They're both running for the District 1 seat previously held by Bill Floyd, who held the post 22 years but stepped down Jan. 7 to take a consulting job. The election will be held March 19 and only District 1 residents can vote. The forum was held at the Church at Decatur Heights. You can recycle old computers, cellphones and other electronic devices from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Callaway building parking lot at 120 W. Trinity Place.
Because of construction at the Decatur Public Works building, the location for Saturday's spring electronic recycling day has changed. The recycling event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Callaway Building parking lot at 120 W. Trinity Place. Recyclers should enter the parking lot from the south off Commerce Drive. The city holds an electronics recycling event twice a year. You don't have to be a Decatur resident to take part. Computers and computer parts, telephones and adding machines are among the things that can be recycled. A $10 fee will be charged for television sets. The founders of the market may give operational control to the nonprofit that runs the East Atlanta and Grant Park farmers markets. Also, the market will relocate to the Beacon Hill Complex when renovation is completed.
Changes in management and location are in the works for the Decatur Farmers Market. The market founders, Greg and Nicole Coleson, are talking about transferring operational control to Community Farmers Markets, according to a report in Atlanta magazine's "Covered Dish" column by Deborah Geering. CFM is a nonprofit that runs the markets in Grant Park and East Atlanta Village. The magazine says, The switch would certainly mean an increase in resources devoted to the market, and would likely result in a larger, more consistent collection of vendors.
