Greg White from Decatur's Active Living Depatment sends this update on Glenlake Pool, saying it will reopen at 5 p.m. today. The city thought the pool would be closed all day Thursday and Friday and reopen Saturday, but the fix was made earlier than expected. Glenlake Pool will open today at 5pm and resume regular scheduled hours tomorrow. Dynamo Pools has installed 8,000 lbs of White Filter Sand for Pool Water Filtration. Glenlake Pool will be closed on Thursday, May 31, and Friday, June 1, for repairs on the filtering system (removing the old sand and adding new sand to the filter). In the interim please visit the two City of Decatur pools at McKoy or Ebster. Glenlake pool will reopen on Saturday, June 2 from 10am-6pm. Man arrested after allegedly touching a child at a Decatur pool was serving probation on a 2002 case.
A sex offender arrested last month in Decatur had been charged about nine years ago in an incident at a Virginia beach. Robert McKenzie, 47, was arrested in Norfolk, Va., for "exposing himself and then beginning to masturbate in front of an 11- and 26-year-old at a local beach," said Norfolk police spokesman Christopher Amos. According to Virginia court records, McKenzie was arrested Aug. 13, 2002 and pleaded guilty in November to a misdemeanor charge of "taking indecent liberties with a child." Court records said the case was resolved July 16, 2004, but no information was immediately available on his sentence.
