The owner of Eddie's Attic spoke at TEDx Atlanta.
Eddie Owen, owner of Eddie's Attic in Decatur, talked about "Live Music Matters" last month at TEDx Atlanta, a meeting of about 300 creative folks who got togeher in Atlanta. He described how the new group The Civil Wars was formed and how Shawn Mullins became an "overnight hit" after working for years.

Shannon McNeal sent Patch an email about "Stories on the Square," an open mic event at which anybody can tell their personal story. "Stories on the Square" starts at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, at Eddie's Attic in Decatur. No cover charge. For a taste of what you might hear, go to Virginia Highlands Patch and hear McNeal tell a story last fall at a similar event held at Manuel's Tavern. Patch asked McNeal how the Eddie's Attic event came about and she told us this story. The event is a spin off from "Stories on the Edge of Night" a late-night personal storytelling performance during the storytelling festival of the Southern Order of Storytellers that happened in February 2012 in downtown Decatur. "Darkland County" Tuesdays will run through March 27.
The Stephen King/John Mellencamp Musical "Ghost Brothers of Darkland County" will premiere April 4 at the Alliance Theater in Atlanta, but you can expect to see plenty of the show's actor-musicians in Decatur before that. The manager of Eddie's Attic brought in a good crowd at the Red Clay Theatre as Patterson Hood of the Drive-By Truckers performed.
Eddie's Owen's business venture in Duluth is officially under way. Owen, founder of Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, recently signed a contract with the city of Duluth to stage live music acts at the Red Clay Theatre. He presented his first two concerts by Patterson Hood of Drive-By Truckers on Dec. 2 and 3. Big banners posted outside the theatre proclaimed “The Red Clay Theatre Eddie Owen Presents” and “R,” “C,” “T” for Red Clay Theatre. The theatre was nearly full. Hood’s performance attracted local folks and fans of his songs and the popular Athens-based band. He was accompanied by Drive-By Truckers band members Jay Gonzalas on keyboard and accordion and Brad Morgan on drums. They played without a break from 8:15 until past 10:30 p.m. Instead …

This is a big week for Eddie Owen, who is now managing and booking for two venus: Eddie's Attic in Decatur and the Red Clay Theatre in Duluth.
Eddie Owen, the namesake of Decatur folk club Eddie's Attic, will use a little help from his friends this week. The first concerts by “Eddie Owen Presents” at the Red Clay Theatre in Duluth Dec. 2 and 3 will feature Patterson Hood of Drive-By Truckers. Hood and Owen have known each other for years. Hood won an open mic competitions in the 1990s at Eddie's Attic and was encouraged by Owen, according to a Sunday Atlanta Journal-Constitution story. The second show in Duluth will be Ed Roland of Collective Soul, who told the AJC about knowing and admiring Owen, the high school quarterback, while growing up in Henry County. “Ed was my hero back then,” Roland said. “I remember throwing a football with him at a church retreat when I was kid, and …
