Decatur Special Election Set for March 19

  The Decatur City Commission has voted to set March 19 as the date for a special election to fill the District 1 seat. The winner will fill the seat vacated by Bill Floyd, who resigned last month to take a consulting job. City Manager Peggy Merriss said people who are interested in running must be a legal adult and must have lived in District 1 for a year. District 1 lies mostly, but not completely, to the north of College Avenue. The fee to file qualifying papers is $144 and the qualifying dates will be Feb. 13-15. Interested residents can file the required paperwork from 9 a.m. -4:30 p.m. on those days at the city clerk's office. Floyd held the city commission seat for 22 years.
