Beer Festival Donated $49,510

The festival spreads around the money -- more than $500,000 since 1998.

The Decatur Craft Beer Festival is one of the top festivals in a town known for festivals. Tickets sell out within an hour. Folks from all over crowd into the Decatur Square to taste more than 100 beers, nibble food and mingle in the fall sunshine. If you didn't make it to the beer festival last October, check out the photo gallery of the event. But the festival is more than a good time. It also raises a lot of money for community groups. The City of Decatur says that since 1998, the festival has donated more than half a million dollars. This year it handed out $49,510 in grants. The city provided this list of recipients:

Mr. Chris Billingsly asked me to share this with the public. The DHS Close Up Club received $750 from the DCBF. We will add a little bit more to this and award three DCBF Travel Grants of $300 to Close Up families struggling to make the final payment due in March. The total cost of this trip is over $1,700 so this grant, in addition to the other donations we have received, helps a great deal. We …   more ›
