Alexia Gallery to Close This Week
Store's closure comes after co-owner's death from breast cancer.
A little more than a month following the death of owner Corinne Herbst, the Alexia Gallery will cease operations at the end of this week. Ms. Herbst, a beloved gemologist with a loyal following in the greater Decatur area, died Jan. 16 following her battle with breast cancer. "The rumors are true," read a posting on the store's Facebook page. "With Corinne's passing, Alexia Gallery is closing." The store was closed Tuesday. It is expected to reopen for limited hours for the remainder of the week to sell remaining fixtures and displays. A jewelry designer in her own right, Ms. Herbst, who has some 30 years in the jewelry industry, opened Alexia Gallery in downtown Decatur in 2006 with her husband.
