Weekender: True Stories at Kavarna

Here are five fun things to do this weekend in Decatur and Avondale Estates.

1. True Stories at Kavarna. Local writers will share their stories, starting at 8 p.m. Friday at the coffee shop in Oakhurst Village. You can hear Charles McNair, Benjamin Carr and Emma Bolden. Free admission.

2. Decatur BBQ, Blues & Bluegrass Festival. This annual summer festival will include games for kids, beer for adults and music for everybody. Starts at 4 p.m. Saturday in Harmony Village. $10 in advance, $15 at the gate.

3. Smart shopping at the farmers market. Brittany Grace will lead a class from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the Decatur Farmers Market on how to craft your shopping experience and utilize the available produce. $20 for Georgia Organics members, $30 for non-members.

4. Live music. At Eddie's Attic, Callaghan on Friday; Alanna Royale and the Packway Handle Band on Saturday; Ed Jurdi and Gordy Quist on Sunday. At Kavarna, Darren Michaels on Sunday. At Big Tex Cantina,Patience Grasshopper on Saturday and Sans Abri for bluegrass brunch on Sunday.

5. Meet the Bulldogs. The Decatur High varsity football team will face Holy Innocents' at 7:30 p.m. Friday in a scrimmage game at the Decatur stadium.
