Football, Walk, Storytellers and Music Galore

A look ahead to what's happening in Decatur and Avondale Estates this weekend.

Here's a sampler of events this weekend in the Decatur-Avondale Estates area. For more activities, check out our Events calendar.

Decatur High football. The 3-0 Bulldogs are back home to host Clarkston at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20. Last weekend, the Bulldogs traveled to Greenville and won 14-7.

Team Hope Walk 2013. The Georgia chapter of the Huntington's Disease Society of America sponsors this event at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Mason Mill Park. Register your team at www.hdsa.org/thwatlanta For more information, you can contact Jenny Arnett at jenny.arnett. 2012@gmail.com

Stories Among the Stars. Fernbank Science Center and the Southern Order of Storytellers collaborate on this fund-raising event at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, marking the autumnal equinox. As the star projector depicts the night sky on the planetarium dome, storytellers will share tales of the autumn constellations. An astronomer will lead a tour of the season's brightest stars, and answer questions about the reason for the seasons. Advance tickets available at the Fernbank site.

Concerts on the Square. The free concerts in September continue on the square in downtown Decatur, with Troy Cono Band from 7-9:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21.

Live music. At Eddie's Attic, Brian Collins and Mama's Blue Dress with special guest, Brittany Spriggs (8 p.m.) on Friday; The Bitteroots with special guest, Sydney Rhame (7 p.m.) on Saturday; Seth Glier (7) and The Barefoot Movement with Phoebe Hunt (9) on Sunday. At Kavarna, Grant on Saturday and Harrison Brown at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. At Big Tex Cantina, Shark Fighter at 10 p.m. Saturday and Georgia Mountain String Band for bluegrass brunch on Sunday.
