Monday Essentials: Fall Book Preview At Decatur Library

Here are five things to know about the week ahead in Decatur and Avondale Estates.


1. Fall book preview. Representatives from America’s biggest publishers will return to the Decatur Library at 7:15 p.m Wednesday to talk about book trends and books that will be published this fall. The Georgia Center for the Book says some of the reps include Toni Hetzel from Random House, Dave Kliegman from Penguin Books and Eric Svenson from Harper Collins. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Free.

2. DeKalb Choral Guild Auditions. Auditions will be held for all voice parts at 6 p.m. Aug. 12 and 19 at Avondale First Baptist Church, 47 Covington Highway in Avondale Estates. Call the audition hotline at 678-318-1362 to schedule an audition time.

3.  Stories on the Square. This open mic story-telling event will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Famous Pub in the Toco Hill Shopping Center. The theme is "firsts." Free.

4. Music Together with Miss Wendy. This  music and movement program for babies, toddlers and preschoolers (as well as the grown-ups who love them) will come to Sapori di Napoli at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Free.

5. Smart shopping at the farmers market. Brittany Grace will lead a class from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the Decatur Farmers Market on how to craft your shopping experience and utilize the available produce. $20 for Georgia Organics members, $30 for non-members.
