MLK Day Events This Weekend
Days of service in Decatur and a parade in Stone Mountain are scheduled.

Several events are scheduled in Decatur, Avondale Estates and DeKalb County for the three-day Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend.
- DeKalb County government will mark the holiday with a celebration at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, in Maloof Auditorium at 1300 Commerce Drive, Decatur. The speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Ralphael Warnock, senior pastor of the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, spiritual home of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
- An MLK Day parade will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday in Stone Mountain. Five local high school marching bands will perform. DeKalb schools superintendent Cheryl Atkinson and U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson are the parade's Grand Marshals. After the parade, a peace rally will be held about 3:30 p.m. atΒ l.

- Emory University will celebrate with an entire week of MLK activities, starting with a performance by poet Eugene B. Redmond at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Robert Woodruff Library. Monday will be a day for community service projects.
- From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Georgia Power employees will "Sponsor a Yard" in partnership with Decatur Cooperative Ministries. They'll work on two yards near North Decatur Presbyterian Church.
