Citrus County is a Bike Lover's Dream

Whether you prefer your two wheels be powered by pedal or by motor, Citrus County is the perfect destination for you. That’s because both bicyclists and motorcyclists have found that the hills and spectacular scenery of Citrus County make for a beautiful ride.

Prefer pedal power? Then the 46-mile Withlacoochee State Trail may prove to be the perfect challenge for you. The asphalt-paved trail is built on the former right-of-way of an abandoned railroad track and spans several counties as it traverses mile after mile of natural lands and riverbanks. Along the trail, riders will find parks, small shops and great restaurants to replenish their energy.

How about biking to the Gulf of Mexico. You can do it on the Withlacoochee Bay Trail in northwestern Citrus County, a surprising little trail with big benefits.

This flat, 5-mile trail north of Crystal River offers an easy ride along the former Cross-Florida Barge Canal from the trailhead just east of U.S. 19 to the gazebo at the west end overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. You might see deer jumping in the woods or fish jumping in the canal.

If you prefer horsepower to pedal power, then we’ve got you covered there as well. No matter which side of Citrus County you explore by motorcycle, you will be ensured a scenic ride through “The Water Lover’s” Florida. Our highways and byways are beloved by bikers for their safety, low speed limits and natural surroundings. The roadways connecting our quaint communities will take you through richly wooded areas, by beautiful bodies of water and past all that this remarkable place has to offer.

The Ozello Trail is a favorite among motorcyclists. Popular for its “twisties” – approximately 50 of them in a 9-mile stretch – this scenic trail offers a view of Old Florida at its best.

Come for the amazing trails and stick around for the many other outdoor adventures that await travelers in Citrus County.
