Weekend Planner: 5 Fun Things to Do

Don't just sit around this weekend -- Get out and do something!

1. Cornhole Competition at Harbour Bar

When/where: Noon-6 p.m. Saturday at at 129 N. Church St.

Why go: We're talking about the game in which you toss beanbags into holes cut into boards. Because some people get competitive, the latest round in the 2012 Atlanta Cornhole Series will be held at Harbour Bar. To get into the game, register at the competition website at www.gocornhole.com. The deadline is 6 p.m. today.

Price: Free to watch.

When/where: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 20 and 21, at the at 500 S. Columbia Drive, Decatur.

Why go: You'll find a large selection of used stuff at great prices. Breakfast and lunch items will be on sale, too.

Price: Free admission.

3. Opening Reception for "The Equalizer" Exhibit

When/where: 8 p.m. Friday, July 20, at Kavarna at 707 East Lake Drive, Decatur.

Why go: Art by Hilary K. Yarbrough and J.E. Mitchell will go on display until Aug. 13. Guest writers for the evening include Randy Osborne, Gina Rickicki, and Nick Tecosky. Music provided by R_Garcia and The A.B. Temperature.

Price: Free admission.

When/where: 8 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at at 119 Center St., Avondale Estates.

Why go: The Academy Theatre says, "You the audience choose who is funny in our monthly improv competition at the Academy Theatre!  Eight improvisers start on stage and take your tasteful suggestions to create songs, sketches, and more!  You then vote for the scenes you like!  Players from improv troupes from all over come to win our great evening of fun!"

Price: $12 online, $15 at the door.

When/where: 3 p.m. Sunday, July 22, at at 2076 N. Decatur Road, Decatur.

Why go: Andrew Gross has co-written thrillers with James Patterson. He will talk about and sign his latest solo project, the novel "15 Seconds."
