Get Ready for Decatur Beach Party

The Decatur Beach Party will turn downtown Decatur into a bastion of sandy fun on June 15.

Ponce Beach is coming back to Decatur as the Decatur Business Association hosts the Decatur Beach Party on June 15.

Sixty tons of sand will be spread out on the streets, there will be a children's boardwalk with lots of fun games and things to do (in past years, there's even been a rock climbing wall), plus there's music, good food, cold drinks and good times. Douglas Brake and the Sizzle, Hiss, Pop Band will perform a concert for the kids and Yacht Rock Schooner will provide chill-out tunes for the adults.

The DBA is also still looking for volunteers to work at the party in three places: entry gate, setup and children's games. There's even a friendly competition this year where the group with the most people to sign up and work at the party will win a $300 gift certificate to McGowans Oakhurst Pub. Email Lee Ann Harvey at leeann.harvey@decaturga.com for more details about volunteering.

Adult tickets to the Beach Party cost $7 online (click here to buy tickets) or $10 at the gate. Kids ages 3 to 12 get in for $5, which includes all games and activities. Kids under the age of two get in for free.
