Decatur Needs Beach Party Volunteers

The group that brings the most volunteers could win a $300 gift certificate.

LeeAnn Harvey, the volunteer coordinator for the City of Decatur, says volunteers are needed for the annual Decatur Beach Party on Friday, June 15.

The party sponsored by the Decatur Business Association starts at 5 p.m. and ends around 11 p.m. The fun includes 60 tons of sand, a kids' boardwalk with all games, music from Yacht Rock Schooner and dancing on the plaza.

Adult tickets are $7 in advance online or $10 at the gate. Tickets for kids 3-12 are $5 and include all games and activities. Children two and under are admitted free.

Harvey says,

We have something new for 2012, a friendly bit of competition! The group with the most individuals who sign up and work the Beach Party will receive a prize.

The prize is a $300 gift certificate to McGowan's Oakhurst Pub donated by My Own Bookkeeper. (Note: if an individual, please pick a “name” and have all your friends/family/etc sign up under that name to become a “group.”)

There are volunteer opportunities available to fit every schedule. Beat the heat and come early for set up! Set up starts in the morning and runs throughout the day. Evening volunteer opportunities abound at the Children’s Boardwalk Games and Entry Gates. Set Up, Children’s Boardwalk, and Entry Gates are all wonderful group volunteer opportunities – invite family, friends and co-workers to come with you.

The minimum age to volunteer is 14. A volunteer signup form is available at www.decaturga.com/volunteer. For information, contact Harvey at 678-553-6548 or leeann.harvey@decaturga.com.
