Both Decatur Teams Win One-Sided Games

Decatur girls return to the top 10 with big weekend ahead.

Neither Decatur team had any problem winning their regional games at Cross Keys Tuesday night, the girls winning 60-3 and the boys 76-23. Both teams are now 11-4.

Earlier in the day the Lady Bulldogs returned to the Top 10, ranked 10th in MaxPreps.Com. In one of the season’s most highly-anticipated games they’ll play third-ranked St. Pius X Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Pius walloped 12th-ranked Woodward 43-16 Tuesday night.

In fact this weekend promises plenty of excitement with Decatur playing Cedar Grove Friday (the boys at 5:30 p.m., the girls at 7 p.m.), followed by St. Pius X, the boy’s game at 7 p.m. All games are at the Decatur High Arena.

The boys are ranked 16th in this week’s MaxPreps poll, with upcoming opponents Cedar Grove (5-3) and St. Pius (9-3) ranked 12th and 14th respectively.

Tuesday night girls coach Bill Roberts played his entire squad, rotating a new five every four minutes. Jordan Dillard had 15 points while sophomore Jahmee Reeves had a season’s-high 11.

On the boys side, Davante Meadows had 13 points while Murad Dillard added 12 points and eight rebounds. Promising sophomore post Nate Scully had seven points, all in the fourth quarter, and junior guard Tyler Axam had four steals.

The Cross Keys boys team has now lost 31 consecutive games according to results posted on GeorgiaPrepCountry.com.  They haven’t won since Jan. 29, 2011, but for the girls’ team it’s much worse. Cross Keys’ girls haven’t won since Jan. 27, 2006, and currently have an 123-game losing streak.

“I’m not sure why they don’t play at the independent level,” Roberts said. “I know that from our perspective, it’s very hard playing a game like this, to simulate the flow and rhythm that we need. We need to somehow try to achieve that rhythm in practice this week. With this big game (St. Pius on Saturday) coming up, we don’t want to lose what we achieved beating Lovett [last Saturday].”
