We Got It Wrong

A summary of corrections in the Decatur/Avondale Patch.

We take transparency seriously. We're committed to accuracy, to acknowledging our mistakes, and to fixing them as quickly as possible. We correct errors in stories and add editor's notes in italics at the bottom of the story.

We do our best to get the facts right, but sometimes we make mistakes. If you see a factual error, tell us about it and we'll make sure we get it right.

Here are our recent mistakes:

--Correction: An article from Feb. 24, "Decatur High's Homegrown Star Says, 'I Have To Keep Working,' " had incorrect information about schools where several high school basketball players had competed and about tuition for a private school. This information has been removed and an editor's note added to alert readers.

- Correction: A story from Oct. 10, "Decatur Woman Arrested In Alleged Assault," incorrectly stated a misdemeanor charge of cruelty to children had been filed. Actually, the charge was felony cruelty to children. The story was changed to correct the error and we added a note to alert readers.

- Correction: A story from Aug. 29,"Decatur School Board Meets Monday," incorrectly stated that the board would hold a work session at Oakhurst Elementary School on that day. Actually, the school leadership team met at the school. The article and headline were changed to correct the error and we've added a note to alert readers of the correction.

- Corrections: In stories from Aug. 10, "School Enrollment Up 11 Percent; Ahmann Undecided on Future," and Aug. 25, "Ahmann Will Not Seek Re-Election," the first name of Garrett Goebel and the last name of Peggy Bumgardner were misspelled. Goebel's first name was also misspelled in an Aug. 29 story, "Political Season: Qualifying Starts Today." We corrected the errors and added notes to the stories.
