Resettling Refugees Into Local Schools

Avondale Estates resident has volunteered to pick up backpacks, school supplies for those fleeing war, famine

An organization based on Memorial Drive needs new or slightly used backpacks for refugee children who are enrolling in local school systems, including Decatur's.

Refugee Resettlement & Immigration Services of Atlanta (RRISA) is designed to help refugees from war, famine and poverty by helping with shelter, food, clothes and medical care; employment; and education.

Avondale Estates resident Stephany Cross has volunteered to pick up any local backpack donations and deliver them to RRISA.

RRISA is currently collecting new or gently used backpacks that contain the following items:

Elementary School Backpacks:Β 

  • Ruler
  • Index cards
  • 24-pack of crayons
  • 10 pencils
  • Spiral notebook
  • Wide-ruled notebook paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Markers

Middle/High School Backpacks:Β
