With classes starting Aug. 1 in the City Schools of Decatur, Decatur High has planned three events to help ease the transition for new students and their families, including ninth graders. provided this information.
Ninth Grade Family Pot-Luck Dinner

When/where: 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at the Decatur High Cafeteria.
Details: Ninth-graders and families are invited to this informal social gathering. Main course, beverages and paper products provided. Familes should bring a dish to share under this plan: Last names A-G, appetizers; H-N, salads/veggies/side dishes; O-Z, desserts. To RSVP, dhs.rsvp@yahoo.com.

New Student Orientation
When/where: 5 p.m. Monday, July 30, at Decatur High Performing Arts Center.
Details: After a brief introduction from DHS administrators, students and families can walk the building to find their classes. This event is for all new families, regardless of grade.

DHS 101 for Families New to Decatur High
When/where: 8:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 18 in the Decatur High Cafeteria.
Details: Families will meet in the cafeteria and break into small groups for sessions led by students, parents, teachers and counselors. Topics to be covered include Campus Portal, e-Blast, e-Board; academic support/tutoring information; choosing courses and pathways; what does IB mean for me?; how best to support your high school student; important rules and your points of contact; time management and organizational tips; and extracurricular activities/learning connections
