I'm with Bulldogger on shortsidedness--Westchester was closed on a whim, not good planning, and FAVE wasn't open even a year before plans to enlarge it surfaced. And I agree that the front face of Oakhurst Elementary is gorgeous and should be preserved. But, now that we are where we are, we should provide space for our current students. It's not their fault if their school officials and/or School Board and/or even their parents have not supported a logical path for CSD but have been more politically motivated. First reopen Westchester and then add on to other schools as needed. Thank goodness SPLOST is there to help. Parents and community members better attend these meetings. If you don't give feedback, you may not like what you get and there will be little recourse. You had your chance to speak up.

You're right, it is a classic school building, like the school Beaver attended.

YES Slim - I think the trend is called a market-based economy providing people the freedom to do what they want with their property under existing zoning rules.

As a parent who attended EVERY meeting when the board decided to close Westerchester after no discussion and the recommendation was to close Clairmont, I have ceased participating in CSD politics. You can only be lied to and misled for so long before you give up. The board and superintendent will do as they please. Any pretense of listing to the community is a shame. Sorry to be so harsh but every concern we had with the problems their decisions would create came to fruition. Some people in our community were listened to, just not the majority and not in a public setting. The fact that they need to expand a school open less than a year only underscores the fact that the serious flaws in the CSD system have not changed in the past ten years.
