Atlanta Dream To Join 'Celebration of The Student-Athlete' In Decatur

A member of the Atlanta Dream, the Women's National Basketball Association team, will attend a March 17 event in Decatur, "Celebration of the Student-Athlete."

Omar Collington, a Decatur High assistant basketball coach and founder of an athletic and mentoring organization called Over and Beyond Basketball LLC, is putting the event together.

It will be held 1 to 6 p.m. at the Decatur Community Resource Center at 481 Electric Ave. On Monday, the Dream said player Lindsey Harding is scheduled for an appearance in Decatur.

Admission is free for students. Basketballs and T-shirts will be given away and Chick-fil-A will provide food.

Students are invited to enter a 750-word essay contest on the subject, "What It Means To Be A Student-Athlete."

The winners will earn scholarships to Over and Beyond Basketball activities. The deadline to enter the essay contest is March 10.
