Oakhurst Elementary Getting New Principal

Mary Mack was named director of elementary education for the City Schools of Decatur. Oakhurst also was named a Georgia School of Excellence.

Oakhurst Elementary, which was just named one of Georgia's 28 Schools of Excellence, will be getting a new principal.

Current Principal Mary Mack has been named director of elementary education for the City Schools of Decatur.

In a letter to Oakhurst families on the school website, Mack said:

For the next few months, I will remain at Oakhurst and slowly transition into my new role.  By the end of September, a committee of [School Leadership Team], parents and staff members will be organized to plan the search for the next principal with the process being organized and implemented through our Human Resources Department.

Until a new principal has been selected, I will remain as principal of Oakhurst.  After the new principal is on board, I will still be available and will continue to serve as a support.

On Oakhurst being named a school of excellence, CSD Superintendent Dr. Phyllis Edwards said, "This is a tremendous honor for City Schools of Decatur. Oakhurst's faculty, staff and students deserve this recognition for their continued gains in achievement and for their outstanding performance on the College and Career-Ready Performance Index."
