New Decatur High Football Coach Brad Waggoner Meets The School Board

He's been head coach at Chattooga High in Summerville since 2009.

Decatur High's , told the city school board Tuesday night that he's excited about his new job.

After being introduced by DHS principal Lauri McKain, Waggoner said the Decatur school system "is first class in every way. There's no reason there shouldn't be a first-class football program."

Waggoner's wife, Mary Beth, and their 6-month-old son, Brad Jr., also came to the meeting. The family is still house hunting.

Waggoner, 37, was hired about a month ago from Chattooga High in Summerville, where he'd been head coach since 2009. He's still working at Chattooga, but makes the 95-mile trip to Decatur High on a regular basis.

He has several changes in mind, mainly reinstituting the Renfroe Middle School football program and starting a youth league program.

He said he wants all the young football players in Decatur to think of themselves as Bulldogs, including his son.
