Museum School Breaks Ground Saturday

The charter school is moving into the old Forrest Hills Elementary.

will hold an ice cream social and groundbreaking from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at its future home -- the old Forrest Hills Elementary School at at 923 Forrest Blvd., Decatur.

The Museum School will move into the building this summer and classes will be held there this fall. The public is invited to the event.

The Museum School is a 2-year-old charter school that's been meeting in portable classrooms at a church in Avondale Estates.

The DeKalb County Board of Education granted the Museum School and gave approval for them to move into the old Forrest Hills building.

The Museum School doesn't have to pay rent, but must pay for renovations. The school has launched a five-year, $3 million capital campaign to renovate the school and bring all buildings up to code.
