Monument To Madison Lewis Will Be Dedicated Sunday At Softball Field

The former Decatur High athlete will be honored at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oakhurst Park.

A monument to , will be dedicated at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 4, at the Oakhurst Park softball field.

The granite monument will sit near the first base dugout at the field where the school softball team plays its games.

Rick Brozek of Brozek Design, who organized fund-raising for the monument,Β  said parking will be difficult because is holding a softball tournament at the park Sunday.

People attending the ceremony may have to park outside Oakhurst Park and walk, he said.

Ms. Lewis was one of two former Decatur High softball players who died Dec. 8 -- news that stunned the Decatur High community.

Ms. Lewis, a 2010 grad, was killed in a wreck in Alabama, where she was attending Southern Union Community College and playing on the school softball team. drowned in St. Croix in the Caribbean.

Brozek said expenses for the monument have been covered, but anybody wanting to help cover other expenses should make a donation to the Madison Lewis Memorial Fund, c/o Cornerstone Bank, 125 Clairemont Ave., Decatur, GA 30030.
