Decatur Schools To Present King Awards To Students Wednesday

Dr. Will Draper of Village Vets will deliver keynote address.

Dr. Will Draper of the Village Vets in Decatur will be keynote speaker Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the Decatur school system's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Mrs. Coretta Scott King Awards.

The awards ceremony starts at 4:15 p.m. at the Westchester offices at 758 Scott Blvd. The awards are given to students who best exemplify the character and beliefs of these civil rights leaders.

The 4/5 Academy at Fifth Avenue Chorus will perform "We Shall Overcome."

The award winners are: Clairemont Elementary, Travon Smith and Sofia Deen;
Glennwood Elementary, Brandon Williams and Genesis Reddicks; Oakhurst Elementary, Anthony Haszelton and Zasia Jones; Winnona Park Elementary,
Evan Beach and Amelia Powell; 4/5 Academy at Fifth Avenue, Martize Smith
and Cate Eppley; Renfroe Middle School, Kwame Oliver and Quincie Peek; and Decatur High School, Daniel Gartrell and Ashleigh Rasheed.

According to the Village Vets website, Atlanta magazine named Draper as one of Atlanta's "Best Vets" in the November 2010 issue of the magazine. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association (GVMA).
