It's Decatur High Homecoming

Plan for three events: Parade at 5:30 p.m. Friday, game vs. Twiggs County at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Homecoming Dance at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Expect to feel a lot of Bulldog love Friday and Saturday – it’s Homecoming.

The school has been active all week as students and parents prepared for the weekend.

Principal Lauri McKain wants to avoid "class-color day," which is not supported by the administration. (Blue and gold are the school colors.) She posted this message on the school website:

If your student dresses for school in all yellow, green, red or blue, it is likely they are participating in this day. Please check your students for markers or paint in these colors. To ensure a positive week, I really need your help in checking your students. Many underclassmen have been told to dress in their colors "or else". I can't have that at DHS and ask for your support and intervention at home. If a student is found "tagging" a student with a color, the situation will be handled by disciplinary action.

Here’s the lineup of Homecoming events:

, 5:30 p.m. Friday: Floats have been constructed and convertibles enlisted to carry students through the street. If you’re not interested in the parade, you should avoid downtown. The parade starts at 5:30 p.m.

The parade will start at the high school on McDonough Street, go down Commerce Street, turn right on West Ponce de Leon Avenue, turn right at Church Street, turn right at Trinity, and turn left onto McDonough to take the parade back to the high school.

Football game, 7:30 p.m. Friday: The Bulldogs (2-5) will face the Twiggs County Cobras.

Twiggs County High has less than 400 students and is located 100 miles south on I-75, just beyond Macon. The Cobras are 0-7 and have been outscored 383-30 by their opponents. The teams have no opponents in common.

The school athletic department and the Decatur Bulldog Boosters will be cracking down on fans who try to bring food and drink into the stadium. Also, the DBB said some students have let others use the membership cards that get them into the stadium. To squelch that, students may be required to show identification at the gate.

Homecoming Dance, 8-11 p.m. Saturday: The dance will be held in the school . The Decatur High PTA is seeking volunteers for food provisions and coat check. Shifts will last an hour and 15 minutes.
