Deal Signs Bill Making Minor Change To Decatur School Board District

The district now conforms to the city commission's.

Gov. Nathan Deal just signed House Bill 842, which makes a slight alteration in a Decatur School Board District.

The accompanying photo shows the change. The little tab that sticks down out of Election District 1 will become part of District 2.

That tab is part of the campus, bordered by South McDonough Street, East College Avenue, East Dougherty Street and South Candler Street.

The change was required because the census showed a slight population shift. The Justice Department requires that election districts be as equalized as possible.

The city commission made the fix by voting the amend the city charter. The school board wasn't sure what steps to take, so they got the legislature to do it. Now the city commission and school board districts are the same.
