March Lunch and Learn! With Speaker Kenneth H. Thomas, Jr.
Ken Thomas retired in 2006 after 33 years as historian for the Historic Preservation Division of the GA Dept. of Natural Resources where he worked on the National Register of Historic Places. He also has written the genealogy column in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution since 1977. His interest in presidential visits stems from his research on Sapelo Island, Georgia, where President and Mrs. Calvin Coolidge spent a week in 1928-1929. He is an avid post card collector and member of the Georgia Postcard Club. A graduate of Emory University and native of Columbus, Georgia, he lives in Decatur, and is currently a board member of the DeKalb History Center.
Ken will cover the various visits of U. S. Presidents to Georgia while in office from George Washington's in 1791 through the late 20th century presidents. Attendees are invited to bring memories of their own presidential sightings or events.
