Charter First Friday

"Charter First Friday" is an initiative created by the National Alliance for Charter Public Schools, designed to celebrate the achievements of charter schools by highlighting an outstanding charter school on the first Friday of each month.  The school invites its parents, community members and community partners, local politicians, state lawmakers and the media to tour the school and learn more about it and charter schools in general.

The Museum School is the result of a three-year effort by a coalition of dedicated parents from the Avondale Estates community who had grown frustrated with the lack of quality public educational options for their children.  The school was approved by the Georgia Charter Schools Commission in December 2009 and opened in August 2010.

The Museum School serves approximately 140 students in grades K-3, with plans to add one grade level per year through grade 8.  It features an innovative, hands-on approach to learning, utilizing a curriculum based around “learning expeditions” to places like the Fernbank Science Center, the Georgia Nature Center, the Atlanta Botanical Garden and the planetarium on the campus of Scott CollegeAgnes.  The school’s interactive program, tailored to the varied needs of its students, offers them the opportunity to learn first-hand and through real-life experiences.
