DHS Starts Basketball Season

The Bulldogs play their home opener Friday night against Providence Christian and host the Second Annual Tip Off Classic next Monday.

Basketball season officially begins Friday night at

The Bulldogs play their first regular season game as well as the home opener  against Providence Christian. The girls game starts at 7 p.m., the boys at 8:30 p.m.

Immediately before the girls game, two former athletes will be inducted into the school Wall of Honor. According to information provided by the Decatur Bulldog Boosters:

  • Larry Morris was a member of the Decatur High 1949-50 state championship football team. He was an all-SEC player at Georgia Tech and went on to star with the Chicago Bears, being named the most valuable player in the 1963 championship game. He's in the College Football Hall of Fame.
  • Clarence Scott Jr. graduated from Trinity High in 1967 and was a member of the 1966 state championship team. He played at Kansas State and was a member of the all-conference team before being drafted by the Cleveland Browns, where he was All-Pro three times.

On Monday and Tuesday, Decatur High will play host for the Second Annual Tip Off Classic. Besides the Bulldogs from Decatur High, the other teams will be Paideia, Woodward and Druid Hills.

The gates open at 3:15 p.m. each day.
