DHS Lifts Afternoon Practice Ban

Heat wave had forced school system to change times when team practiced.

A note in the Decatur Bulldog Boosters newsletter said the football team has returned to its normal outdoor practice schedule.

Last week, the City Schools of Decatur banned outdoor practices from noon to 6 p.m. because of the heat. The DHS teams had been practicing after 6 p.m. while the order was in effect.

The newsletter note said: "As of Tuesday, 9 August, outdoor activities will resume normal practice times as allowed by the Athletic Department heat guidelines and protocol."

Two Georgia high school football players died recently, apparently because of the heat. Other metro area schools also stopped afternoon outdoor practices.

DHS has a scrimmage at 7 p.m. Aug. 18 against Holy Innocents at Riverwood. The first game is 7:30 p.m. Aug. 26 against North Springs at DHS Stadium.
