Decatur High Girls Defeat No. 4 GAC 47-42; DHS Boys Lose

Bulldogs next play North Cobb Dec. 28 in Big South Tournament.

The girls basketball team won its biggest game of the season Friday night, beating Greater Atlanta Christian 47-42.

GAC (5-2) is ranked fourth in the state in the AA classification. Decatur, now 9-1, is seventh but may rise in the next coaches poll. Decatur had never beaten GAC.

The GAC boys defeated Decatur 64-45 in the second game of the night at the GAC gym. Decatur is now 4-6 for the season and GAC is 6-3.

After winning his game, DHS girls coach Bill Roberts said, “Our kids played hard tonight. Our chemistry got a lot better. We played good team basketball.”

Jordan Dillard was the top scorer for Decatur with 16 points. Queen Alford had 12.

The GAC defense collapsed all night on Alford, who has been averaging 24 points a game. Roberts said the other players picked up the scoring slack and the team hit critical free throws.

Decatur next plays North Cobb, an AAAAA school, Dec. 28 in the Big South Tournament at Brookwood.

“That tournament will prepare us for regional play that begins after the tournament,” Roberts said.
