Decatur High To Present 'Eco-Threads' Fashion Show On Friday

The environmentally friendly clothes will be put on display Friday night at Performing Arts Center.

Jessica Carr, the president of the Decatur High School Fashion Club, sent Patch an email and some photos about an upcoming event -- an eco-friendly fashion show.

Saving the world one outfit at a time.

That is the motto of Decatur High School’s first eco-friendly fashion show, “Eco-Threads”, happening this Friday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m. at the Decatur High School Performing Arts Center.

The idea for this eco-friendly fashion show was born when a representative from Alliance for Climate Education (ACE), came to DHS and gave a presentation on how teenagers can save the environment. The DHS Fashion Club proposed their show idea to ACE, who became a sponsor, and the designing began!

The clothes seen in the fashion show are all hand-made by the DHS Fashion Club or purchased at thrift stores. The outrageous outfits range from dresses created out of zebra-styled duct tape, peacock headpieces made from soda cans and bubble wrap, origami flower dresses, recycled jeans with more pockets than you can count, to dresses with water bottles that light-up.

In addition to jaw-dropping fashions, Jungle Boogie Crew, of MTV’s hit show, America’s Best Dance Crew, will perform. Food will be available for purchase, made by DHS advanced culinary arts students. All the clothes seen on stage will be for sale through a silent auction during the show.

While the fashion show theme is environmentally friendly, the prices to get in are wallet-friendly. The Fashion Club asks only for donations of canned goods to be donated to the Atlanta Food Bank, non-environmentally-friendly light bulbs to be exchanged for environmentally-friendly light bulbs, or cash donations.
