DeKalb Schools Suspend Marching Band Activities, But Not Decatur

Connections found between DeKalb schools and FAMU investigation.

A spokeswoman for the City Schools of Decatur says that Decatur High and Renfroe Middle schools are not suspending marching band activities.

The question arises because DeKalb County school officials announced Wednesday they are suspending marching band activities in light of the band hazing investigation at Florida A&M University, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

School system officials announced Wednesday afternoon that they were suspending all marching band activities pending an investigation of "possible inappropriate activities" amongΒ  band members, alumni advisors, band directors and others.

"We have documented evidence of inappropriate activity that took place over the summer," system spokesman Walter Woods said.

The story said that a FAMU band member who died under mysterious circumstances on a band trip and another member who was injured both attended Southest DeKalb High School.

When asked if Decatur schools were suspending band activities, spokeswoman Heather Borowski said in an email:

"No, all is well with our bands."
