Decatur's 4/5 Academy Prepares to Open Its Doors

Workers are finishing up the school in the Oakhurst neighborhood in time for the new school year.

Decatur's newest school is close to being ready for the Aug. 2 start of the school year.

The will, as its name suggests, serve fourth and fifth graders from throughout the city's school system.

The new building replaces the old Fifth Avenue Elementary, which sat empty for the past few years.

The Academy will be part of the International Baccalaureate Program, which offers a curriculum that is seen a much more rigorous than those offerd by most public schools.

Are you excited about sending our kids to the new school? Do you have memories of the old Fifth Avenue Elementary? Share your thoughts with readers on Patch.

This is very exciting that the new school is almost ready. It is so great that Decatur cares so much about their kids and are always looking for ways to improve their education experience.
